5/10/2016 0 Comments #Been #Busy !There is a reason I haven’t posted an update in a few months. #BeenBusy! Let me rattle off the list ;) I was voted in as Strata President for our business complex again, a necessary evil I suppose.. Amber, the boys and I drove to Vancouver for a weekend visit.. Lot’s of driving for a very short stay but we had an amazing time as a family! We put on another concert, this time for Sarbjit Cheema and his team of singers and performers called “Mega Vaisakhi Mela 2016”. It was a great show that we managed to sell out. Adderley celebrated his 3rd Birthday, he reminds me of myself more and more every day. I think that Coltrane might look a bit more like me but Adderley definitely acts more like me. We were invited to Edmonton to join the Premier and Provincial Finance Minister in a round table discussion to discuss the budget, which was an amazing opportunity. We are putting on another radiation for the Canadian RED CROSS in support of the rebuilding efforts in Fort McMurray tomorrow. This Saturday is the Calgary Vaisakhi celebration, which is always a lot of work but a great way to get involved in the community. I think that this year will mark the 22nd time that I’ve attended a Vaisakhi event, but who’s counting??! I am still in Toastmasters and totally loving it! I just completely the first speech manual called Competent Communicator which was 10 speeches. I feel like I fluffed my 10th speech but was happy to get through it, particularly during such a busy period in my life. Looking forward to moving into my next set of speech manuals and trying to improve my public speaking abilities. We put on another Multicultural IDOL event, this time featuring Russian, Serbian and Croatian singers. It was another great event and we discovered some amazing singers from each language category. I look forward to working with this throughout the year. Finally and most importantly, Amber and I are celebrating 6 years together as of today! Amazing how time flies and just how much one can accomplish in such a small amount of time. Amber’s an amazing woman and I’m such a lucky guy.

1/18/2016 0 Comments Holy Smokes, It's 2016!As 2015 came to a close, we held another radiothon at RED FM to raise funds for the Calgary Health Trust. This year’s project was a naming opportunity for the new women’s health ward currently under construction at the Peter Lougheed Centre. With enough funds raised, the main triage area will be named the “Mai Bhago Triage Area” in honour of a tremendous woman who represents courage and strength amongst other great qualities in the Sikh religion. In 1 day, we managed to raise over $300,000.00 which brought us to about 1/2 of the target required for the project, however we envisioned this opportunity to be a 2 year commitment so we are on track. As far as the logistics were concerned, the radiation was extremely smooth both from a technical and performance perspective on-air. The Pedersen family braved some cold weather and had our annual Christmas photo session outdoors this year at Nose Creek Park. As usual, Amber did some amazing research and found a great photographer. Without Amber, I’m not sure that we would ever get family photos taken and every time we get them developed, I realize just how important they are. (Thanks baby <3) Coltrane had his very first Christmas concert ever this year thanks to his preschool. The kids all went up on a stage and performed about 5 carols and Coltrane even played the bongos. It was one of those moments that I will never forget. Once again, we went to Vancouver for our Christmas vacation and had a blast. We arrived in the evening on Christmas Eve and spent that night and Christmas morning at my parent’s house but jumped between both sets of parents over the 9 day window. Every time I visit BC I go on the most epic runs and this year was no exception. I managed to run almost 50k over our time there, if there is anything about BC that I miss, it is family, friends and RUNNING! I get out for a run in Alberta whenever we have a decent chinook but it is just not the same. Now that we’re back in Alberta and have successfully recovered from our Christmas vacation, we are back into into the grind, both at home and at work. The CRTC has opened a call for radio licenses in Edmonton, so we are busy putting together a license application for another station. This project is going to make for an extremely busy 3 months ahead of us until we reach the submission deadline in April.
Lastly, we are registering Coltrane for Kindergarten this week. The time has finally come and we could not be happier for Cole, he is extremely prepared to take the next step. Coltrane is very social and intelligent, he will excel in school and make us proud! |
